Tutorial

Why changing the tutorial?

Currently the tutorial advances on its own. There's a lot of text and is always going to be unclear on how to do the steps. The idea is to change the tutorial with one that is more active, can point at things on your screen, such as where to go or where to click, and has an UI that you can always read.

Player goals

  • Look, move, use items and your inventory
  • Forage, handcrafting, eating, trading with the village, talking with villagers
  • Building a mine, a farm, housing
  • Setting up a city, claiming the world, industry
  • Power, better gear, fuel, a rocket, orbit
  • End goal: Destroy the asteroid or resettle

What is not covered?

Ship designer, ground/space combat, trading, diplomacy

Rules for the new tutorial

  • One instruction per step
  • Don't force progression on the player
  • Show how the player can progress by pressing the 'show me' button
  • Have a visible timer for the asteroid

How can you show the player how to progress?

  • 3D marker for specific deposits or commodities
  • Where you can find specific NPCs
  • Where you can find buildings
  • How to find specific UI windows
